Why my clean washing smells mouldy
We clean our clothes to make them smell nice and fresh again. Unfortunately we can all make simple mistakes that can make your clean clothes smell funky and stale.
Here are just some of the reasons why your clothes are not smelling fresh after washing:
- A smelly washing machine can leave your clothes smelling less than fresh
- Leaving wet laundry in the washing machine means the fabric can’t breathe
- Leaving wet or damp laundry in the tumble dryer will also cause clothing to smell
- Drying them on a confined rack meaning clothes don’t fully dry
- Storing clothing in cramped drawers and wardrobes while they are still damp
- Drying clothes inside can mean they don’t get any ventilation so you should open windows
- Drying clothes in an environment that already has cold, damp and condensation problems. Wet clothes will worsen the condensation in the air and can lead to mould and bacteria forming
- Not regularly changing the filters in your home MVHR / HRV ventilation systems
- Not opening the windows when you boil the kettle or shower meaning damp stays in the air
- Not hoovering regularly or changing the hoover bag
- Not replacing the filters in your extractor fans meaning cooking smells remain in the air for longer and attach to your clean clothes
Time to change your MVHR filters? We offer the popular Mrxbox95 Filters for the Nuaire MVHR systems and Vent Axia Sentinel Kinect filters.
