FAQs

Q: How do I know which filters I need?

The first thing you need to do is find out which MVHR HRV system you have. MVHR HRV systems are often found in the utility or storage cupboard of your home. The brand of MVHR HRV system and model number should be displayed on the front or side of the unit. Alternatively, you should have been supplied with an instruction manual for the system when it was installed in your home, and you'll be able to find the brand and model there. Once you have this information, you can search and browse through our filter range to find your filters.

MVHR HRV system manufacturers often provide filter product codes in their manufacturer booklets and instruction manuals. We reference these on our product pages to help you ensure you are buying the right filters.

If you're not 100% sure which filters you need, we recommend you check the dimensions of your filters against the product description before placing your order.

Please contact us using our contact form if you require advice on choosing the right filters or if we are not stocking the filters you need.

Q: What is the difference between filter grades G3 (Standard), G4 (Premium) and M5 (Deluxe + Pollen)?

Most of our filters can be purchased at different density grades. The higher the grade number, the higher the quality of the cloth, producing a better performance and filtering a greater amount of nasty things from the air.

The M5 is also made at a density to filter out pollen particles from the air. Great for those that suffer from hay fever or have other pollen related sensitivities.

Q: How often should I change my filters?

Heat recovery systems by their very nature require regular maintenance to ensure the system works correctly and to prevent damage.

Filters must be changed a minimum of every 12 months but this is subject to the environment in which you live. Filters being used in urban areas will need more regular changing, often every 3 to 6 months.

Basic filter maintenance is recommended between filter changes. This can be undertaken by cleaning gently or vacuuming the filters. We recommend that you read your manufacturer’s instructions for detailed cleaning instructions. Typically you should avoid using any liquids when cleaning.

The average guarantee for a MVHR HRV system is 2 years. Most units require full servicing every 5 years. Looking after your system with regular filter cleaning and changing will prolong the system's lifetime.

Q: How do I change my filters?

You can easily replace the filters in your MVHR HRV system yourself. The method varies depending on the system you have but it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

We recommend that you follow the instruction manual of your MVHR HRV system for an explanation on how to change your filters. We provide links to instruction manuals on our product pages.

Our own simple guide is set out below.

  • Turn off or unplug the unit.
  • Remove the front panel of the system (this may require unscrewing the panel) or slide open the filter doors / drawer.
  • Remove (by gently pulling) the dirty filters from the system.
  • Insert the new clean filters in the unit.
  • Place the front panel back on the system or close the filter doors / drawer.
  • Turn on the unit for the system to restart.
  • If you have a digital control panel, this may need resetting.
